Reconstructing an essay in a group

I believe that reconstructing essays is a great way to get a better understanding of what the writer is trying to get across. When we were working in groups it was way better because people have different idea's on what the writer is actually saying, then you come to a final agreement on what the essay is all about, and the outline. Today, I learned a lot with this exercise because this was the first time I have ever reconstructed an essay, and it was very helpful.

Format and how to use it

Since I have just graduated from Kelowna Secondary School in June I am still in the habit of writing the dreaded five paragraph essay. I feel more confident now that I know that I can have more than five paragraphs in my essays. The format exercises that we learned today will benefit me in English and all of my other classes. My history and my labs are usually very long, so now I know how to properly put my papers together.

Biggest impact on preparing me to read

When I am about to read and essay or story I like to read the biography of the author, if there is one. Because it usually gives me an understanding on were the author is coming from and why they have stated they points they had. I also like to look at dates, and the title of the story. I think that titles can be very symbolic, and if you think about what the title really means you get a better understanding of what is to come.I have learned so much so far especially how to analyse a story before you even read it. I think these exercises really help me with being a better reader.

Writing and the Audience

Ever since I have been writing short stories and essay's I have always written it as if the reader knows exactly what I am thinking. I know that is one of the number one rules of what not to do in writing. When I start my essays I always think about the reader and how they are ignorant of what I am saying, but then I seem to trail off into my own little world, and I get a bit carried away. Then when I proof read my essays and I say to myself "What was I thinking?!" Hopefully I will get out of this habit soon, with the help of my peers in class and help from Heather.

Problems in another class

When I first started college I didn't really know what to expect, with homework and my classes. The first week I didn't get very much homework, but as week's went on the pile got bigger and bigger. I am not really worried about any of my English, history, or sociology classes, but I am worried about math. It has always been my worst class...... Surprisingly I got a B on my last test. I just started my Geography lab today and I feel this will the next major problem I will have in a class.

Revising Paragraphs

When I first came to my first college English class I didn't really know what to expect. As we started revising paragraphs in class I didn't exactly know what was going on, but as we revised paragraphs everyday I started to get the hang of it. Since we have had so much practice doing this I feel much more confident in my writing skills. I really believe I will get a lot of useful information out of this class and that it will teach me to become a better writer.

Expectations for the Semester...

This semester I expect to get good grades in all of my classes, I also expect to learn alot of new things. In english class I would like to get a B average, and I would like to learn how to write a proper college essay. Math is one of the hardest subjects for me, but my goal is to get a C+ or higher. I feel that I will learn alot in this one semester, because this is my first year of college and everything is new to me. I expect to do well this semester, but I know I'll do well this semester.
